Images are memory aids – avenues for recall. My parents’ have always documented our family through photography and video; they have covered their guest bathroom’s walls in family photographs and filled their cabinets with old home videos, an offering up of their evidence of our existence. These candid photographs and films have become more important through time symbolizing the correlation between past moments and future revelations in me. Through investigating the notion of creating and recounting memory through images I have begun to collect, create, and offer up images of my own. They allow me to re-visit past moments, given me a sense of authorship and ownership over my memories, and have instilled in me a need to capture future ones. It is my intent that these images are viewed not just as my own personal accounts, but as vehicles for the collective connection that each of us has to recall, reminiscence, and the acquisition of memories.
